New York Vendy Awards Celebrate the Best in Food Trucks

Over the last few years, the new staple across the nation in almost very major metropolises have been artisan food trucks from New York to LA. From dim sum and dumplings to fresh donuts, food trucks are bringing out my inner greedy kid.

20130907_162416 copyRecently, I got a chance to check out the Vendys, “NYC’s premier street food showcase and an intense cook-off between the best sidewalk chefs that has become one of the city’s most beloved and widely anticipated food events!” The Vendys are awesome because not only do you get a chance to check out some for of the cities fav and most coveted food trucks, but you also support the organizers, the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors’ rights.

Now to the food and trucks!

With over 27 vendors from food, drink, and dessert, there was plenty to try and never an empty mouth or hand holding whatever you were going to consume next after stuffing your face.

Neapolitan Express serves organic pizza creations. The highlight of this food truck is that runs completely on compressed natural gas which reduces 90% of carbon emissions and also uses solar panels to power components on the truck! More to come on this eco-friendly food truck on the near future.

This is the Blueberry Mojito sorbet from Itizy and it as delicious.

I’ve known Cinnamon Snail since their early days in Hoboken and distinctively remember saving a parking spot for them or two. Mind you I didn’t have a car or drive.

They served up some of the delicious plant-based eats and ever coveted donuts. Despite the next picture, I just took a tiny piece as not suppose to have sugar but the temptation was too great and gave it away.

The winners of the NYC 2013 Vendys were:

Vendy Cup: El Olomega
People’s Taste: Luke’s Lobster
NJ & Tide to Go’s “Messy yet Tasty” Award:: Home By The Range
Market Vendor: Khao Man Gai NY
Rookie of the year: Nuchas
Dessert: Itizy Ice Cream

Congrats to the winners and see you next year!!
